Island life behind the scenes
An island has a rhythm of its own.
The motorboat carries guests and luggage from the mainland jetty to the island. The crossing takes around four minutes.
A call button for the hotel boat is ready at the jetty. Parking and, on request, a garage are on the mainland.

Once, you had to call for the boat.
As early as 1877, Villach chronicler Carl Ghon described visitors calling from the shore for a boat. The crossing remains; only the calling has gone.
- The lake and island pass into the ownership of the Princes of Liechtenstein.
- The farm on the wooded island develops into an inn.
- The “Wilhelm Schwelle” hotel begins offering overnight stays.
- The lake and island pass to Ludwig Wittgenstein, an uncle of the philosopher.
- The historic bathhouse is built and continues to shape the island today.
- Through inheritance, the property is held by the Bucher and Catasta families.

Dogs staying with hotel guests are welcome on the island and in the rooms.
The private beach has a separate sunbathing area for guests with dogs.
